![]() ![]() Sadly, on May 25th of 2020 Angel passed away ate age 68 due to COVID-19 and pneumonia. Dry Creek Cafe is where the group developed most of their following and Angel was the spirit and owner of the place. Essentially, Cactus Lee is a partner band with "Dry Creek Cafe" a joint in Austin, Texas. ![]() Especially because of the lead single "Angel" which is a song that honors one of the most important people in their community. Going into Texas Music Forever (LP5) I had my expectations. In the past 20 months, they've released 4 projects and 1 limited edition mixtape that was only up for a couple days but went SO HARD. And this "quality shit" comes from Austin Texas where the band Cactus Lee stay.Ĭactus Lee has been on a roll. However if you look in the right places, there's always quality shit. Now, thanks to people like Florida Georgia Line, Blake Shelton and Sam Hunt modern country gets horrible rep but rightfully. This was at the time that I was really getting into old school country like Willie Nelson, Townes Van Zandt, Blaze Foley, Guy Clark and Ricky Skaggs. Right away I was really intrigued by the groups sound. I saw that they we're in the fan favorites and they only had about 90 listeners on Spotify. Musician John Perez, inspired by the acts on stage, returned to the Cactus after his first visit to try his hand at performing. The Cactus Cafe holds live music every weekend, usually a concert most Friday or Saturday nights. “What are our resources at hand? What’s the vision?” “It was a lot of planning, asking questions, working with the University Unions to figure out what (we are) looking to do,” Smith said. Smith, who has been working as the programming director since July 2021, said he hopes to solidify the Cafe’s success going forward through open mic nights and a welcoming atmosphere. Long-time institution for student and local musicians in the Austin area, the Cactus Cafe offers aspiring artists the opportunity to showcase their original music - an open invitation for all at any stage in their musical journey.Īfter a two-year shutdown and ending a decade-long contract with NPR radio station KUT, the Cactus Cafe is heading in a new direction, a direction that started with the passionate Dylan Smith, a senior student programs advisor in the Student Programs Office. The first act of the night makes their way on the stage with haste at the historic Cactus Cafe. Lights dim as the crowd’s murmurs subside into anticipatory silence.
